How to Add a Non-Marijuana Product
Use this flow to add accessories and other non-cannabis items (e.g., lighters, papers, merch). These items are not tracked in METRC and are created directly in Marijuana Software.
Before You Start
Decide the Store Category (e.g., Accessories) and tax settings for this item.
Have optional details handy: SKU/Barcode, vendor, cost, and images.
1  •  Create the Product
a. Go to Products and click Add Product.
b. Enter a clear Product Name (e.g., “Clipper Lighter – Black”).
c. Select a Store Category such as Accessories or Merch.
d. Set the State Category (label on the form) to Non-Marijuana Product.
Note: This field was previously mis-labeled as “Product Type” in older instructions—the correct field name is State Category.
e. Optionally toggle Show in Web Menus if you want this item to appear online.
f. Fill in Description and Notes as needed, then click Create.
2  •  Add Inventory
a. From the product row, click Add Stock.
b. Enter the Quantity received into Back Stock and (optionally) the Cost per Unit for accurate COGS.
c. Set the Price and Save.
3  •  Make It Available at POS
a. If your store uses sales-floor quantities, transfer units from Back Stock to Sales Floor.
b. Confirm the item appears on the Sales screen (scan its barcode or search by name).
Tips & Best Practices
Barcodes: Print shelf labels or use manufacturer barcodes for faster checkout.
COGS & Margins: Enter cost when restocking to keep margin reports accurate.
Web Menus: If you publish a menu, ensure the item is set to visible/active with an image and price.
