| How to Change the Paper Type for Star Micronics Receipt Printers (Windows) | |
|---|---|
| Star Micronics receipt printers (TSP100, TSP650, TSP700 series) often default to a Receipt paper type. For longer receipts, switch to 72mm × 200mm (sometimes displayed as 200mm). You must change this in two places in Windows: Device Settings and Printing Preferences → Advanced. | |
| 1 • Open Printer Properties | |
| a. | Open Control Panel (press Windows+R, type control, press Enter). |
| b. | Go to Devices and Printers. |
| c. | Find your Star printer (e.g., TSP100 Cutter), right-click it, and choose Printer Properties. |
| 2 • Update Device Settings | |
| a. | In Printer Properties, open the Device Settings tab. |
| b. | Locate Paper Type (may be labeled Roll Paper) and change from Receipt to 72mm × 200mm (200mm). |
| c. | Optional – Cash Drawer: • Set Peripheral Unit Type to Cash Drawer. • For Peripheral Unit 1, choose Document Top (or your preferred trigger). |
| d. | Click OK to save. |
| 3 • Update Printing Preferences | |
| a. | Back in Devices and Printers, right-click the printer again and select Printing Preferences (may show as Preferences or Settings). |
| b. | Click Advanced…. |
| c. | Change Paper Type/Paper Size from Receipt to 72mm × 200mm (200mm). |
| d. | Click OK to save. |
| 4 • Test Your Settings | |
| a. | Print a Windows test page or a receipt from your POS. |
| b. | Verify the paper advances properly and long receipts are not cut off. |
| c. | If you enabled the cash drawer, confirm it opens at the end of the print job. |
| Tips | |
| • | Match both places: The Device Settings tab and Printing Preferences → Advanced must both be set to 72mm × 200mm, or Windows may revert to the default Receipt size. |
| • | If truncation persists, ensure your POS software is also configured to use the 200mm paper size. |
