Make Your Cash Drawer Pop When a Receipt Prints
| Make Your Cash Drawer Pop When a Receipt Prints (Windows + CloudPRNT for Mac/iPad/Android) | |
|---|---|
| Most receipt printers with a cash-drawer (DK/RJ-11) port can trigger the drawer when a receipt prints. On Windows, enable the option in the printer driver (works for Star Micronics, Epson, and most brands). Mac, iPad & Android: Our system supports only Star Micronics printers using CloudPRNT. See setup guide: Configure wireless/CloudPRNT on Star. |
|
| What You Need | |
| • | Windows: A receipt printer installed (Star, Epson, most others) + cash drawer connected to the printer’s DK/RJ-11 port. |
| • | Mac/iPad/Android: A Star Micronics CloudPRNT model (e.g., mC-Print/TSP WLAN with CloudPRNT) + drawer on DK port. |
| Windows: Enable “Open Cash Drawer” in the Printer Driver (Star, Epson, and most models) | |
| 1. | Open Devices and Printers (Press Win+R → type control → Enter → Devices and Printers). |
| 2. | Right-click your receipt printer → Printer properties. |
| 3. | Go to the hardware options tab (Device Settings or a brand tab like Star Line/EPSON Advanced). Find drawer settings named Cash Drawer / Drawer Kick / DK Port / Peripheral Unit. |
| 4. | Enable the drawer and choose the trigger: Document Top (open at start) or Document Bottom (open at end). If available, set pulse width (~200 ms). |
| 5. | Click OK/Apply. Then right-click the printer → Printing preferences → Advanced… and mirror the same drawer settings. Save. |
| 6. | Print a POS receipt or a Windows Test Page to confirm the drawer pops. |

| Mac, iPad & Android (CloudPRNT Required) | |
| Supported printers | Star Micronics CloudPRNT models only (e.g., mC-Print series, TSP100III with CloudPRNT). Connect the cash drawer to the printer’s DK port. |
| Setup | Follow our CloudPRNT guide to register your printer and link it to your account: How to configure wireless printing on my Star printer (CloudPRNT) . After CloudPRNT is configured, printing receipts from Mac/iPad/Android will trigger the drawer. |
| Tips & Best Practices | |
| Cable & Port | Ensure the RJ-11 cable is firmly seated in the printer’s DK port (not Ethernet/phone). Most drawers are powered by the printer. |
| Timing | If the drawer opens too early/late, switch between Start/End of Document triggers or adjust pulse width. |
| Paper size | Use 72mm × 200mm (200mm) paper size to avoid truncation that can interfere with end-of-job kicks. |
| Troubleshooting | |
| Drawer doesn’t open (Windows) | Recheck driver settings; verify DK cable; try another cable/drawer; print a Windows test page; power-cycle the printer and PC. |
| Drawer doesn’t open (Mac/iPad/Android) | Confirm the printer is a CloudPRNT model, is registered/online in your account, and the drawer is connected to the DK port. |
